In the first fortnight of April, the Nova Terra Light-Community, affiliated with the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Federation (FIHF), received a significant donation of a variety of fruits and vegetables of good quality and in good condition from the “Mesa Brasil” program.

Forwarding part of the donations to CRAS

The “Mesa Brazil” program, sponsored by Sesc, is the largest network of food banks in Latin America, a benchmark in the fight against hunger and food waste. It works alongside partner companies, which donate production surpluses or products that are not up to commercial standards but are in a safe condition for consumption. The food and nutritional security program takes care of thousands of people in vulnerable situations every day through registered social assistance institutions.

Plenty of food

The Nova Terra Light-Community has been registered in the program for almost two years, and since then, it has regularly received a variety of donations, not only of fruit and vegetables, but also of food such as biscuits, salt, rice, and other non-perishable foods.

When the donations arrive, they are sorted: some for the Light-Community’s consumption, and others to be donated onward to other institutions and/or families. Part of this donation, for example, was sent to the CRAS (Social Assistance Reference Center) of Teresópolis, where it will be distributed amongst various needy families assisted by this public agency.

The residents of the Light-Community emphasize: “It’s through giving that one receives: this is the law. In this way, we have never lacked anything nor will we.”
